Please make sure you get trials for your makeup so you can tell the difference between artists. Does your artist know that you can't wear any products with S.P.F. in it or it will turn you gray in pictures? Does your artist know that film, not photography, will drown out your makeup? These are just a few things that you will learn with us. Artists only charge what their time and talent is worth.
We are licensed makeup artists, which is very important when you are considering someone to do your makeup. In Illinois it is illegal for anyone without a license to charge for their service. There is a loop-hole in the law in Illinois that states you are allowed to apply makeup without a license. Basically, people who work for department stores typically are hired 90% on sales and 10% on how they look and basic makeup application skills. Anyone who is licensed in Illinois to do makeup (esthetics or cosmetology) must carry a pocket sized license with them at all times and their license should be hanging in their main place of work. If they don't have one with them you can go to idfpr.com (Illinois Dept. of Financial & Professional Regulation) and all you need is their first and last name and you can do a license lookup.
This is brought up for your safety. If your makeup artist has not been trained properly in sanitation; then they can transmit bacteria, fungus, and viral infections to their clients. Without a license they cannot be insured for product liability.
